PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 11, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Truck Safety Coalition (TSC), the leading nonprofit supporting victims of large truck crashes, is proud to announce its next TRUCK (Training to Renew Underride Crash Knowledge) Safety Roadshow, marking the first virtual webinar tailored specifically for Oregon Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) inspectors.
Underride crashes—where a passenger vehicle slides under a tractor-trailer—remain a significant safety concern. Fatalities involving large trucks in Oregon have nearly tripled from 2014 to 2022, underscoring the urgent need for targeted safety initiatives.
This innovative training, delivered in partnership with the Oregon Department of Transportation - Commerce and Compliance Division, will equip participants with the knowledge and tools to address underride crash risks effectively.
Attendees will engage in an interactive virtual session featuring:
• A side underride guard model;
• Training on identifying and documenting underride crashes;
• Instruction on assessing compliance with rear impact guard safety standards.
"Underride crashes represent a serious threat to public safety. Together, we are taking proactive steps to mitigate the risks associated with these tragic crashes. TRUCK Safety Roadshows will help save lives," states Zach Cahalan, Executive Director of the Truck Safety Coalition.
"I'm honored to have the opportunity to educate and promote the issue of deadly underride crashes. My life forever changed in 1983 when my dad was killed in a side underride crash. These violent crashes are horrific and are more often than not deadly! We must raise awareness on the importance of collecting accurate crash data to honor the lives of our loved ones forever lost in these crashes," shares Jennifer Tierney, family survivor and Chair of Citizens for Reliable and Safe Highways (CRASH).
The Truck Safety Coalition thanks the Oregon Department of Transportation for its commitment to fostering a safer roadway system through education and collaboration. This partnership is an essential step in preventing further tragedies and ensuring that CMV inspectors are equipped to promote compliance and safety measures.
The Truck Safety Coalition (TSC) is a partnership between Citizens for Reliable and Safe Highways (CRASH), also known as The CRASH Foundation, and Parents Against Tired Truckers (P.A.T.T.). The Truck Safety Coalition is dedicated to reducing the number of deaths and injuries caused by truck-related crashes, providing compassionate support to truck crash survivors and families of truck crash victims, and educating the public, policymakers, and the media about truck safety issues.
