Nonprofit Seeks Community Support to Raise $150,000 and Bring Vision to Life
DETROIT, Dec. 16, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- , a nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth through essential life skills and mentoring, is taking a step to address transportation challenges faced by children and families in and around Detroit. The organization is developing a Mobile Mentoring Hub to bring vital resources, mentorship, and community support directly to those in need.
The L.I.V.E. Outreach Mobile Mentoring Hub, envisioned by founder Malika Williams, will serve as a resource for youth and their families. The hub will provide transportation to community programs, seasonal activities, free books, fresh produce, toiletries, and life-enhancing programs focusing on financial literacy, storytelling, dietary education, and more.
"Transportation barriers are a significant hurdle for many families in our community," said Malika Williams, founder of The L.I.V.E. Outreach. "As a former teen mom in foster care, I know firsthand how access to resources can transform lives. The Mobile Mentoring Hub is not just about delivering goods—it's about delivering hope and creating opportunities."
Transportation challenges impact countless families in Detroit, where studies show that nearly 33 percent of households lack access to a reliable vehicle, limiting their ability to connect with essential programs and services. The L.I.V.E. Outreach Mobile Mentoring Hub aims to bridge this gap, ensuring that youth and families can access the support they need to thrive.
The project has gained momentum with the support of the Detroit Collaborative Design Center's (DCDC) Grassroots Design Access Initiative. This program, part of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Architecture and Community Development, is collaborating with The L.I.V.E. Outreach to create a conceptual design for the hub, which involves the conversion of a 14-passenger bus into a multifunctional space. Once completed, it will serve as both a transportation source for up to 10 individuals and a flexible programming hub.
To make this vision a reality, The L.I.V.E. Outreach has set a fundraising goal of $150,000. Community members, organizations/corporations and foundations are invited to join the cause by donating at .
Founded in 2014, The L.I.V.E. Outreach began as a program to equip young women transitioning from foster care to independence with essential life skills. Over time, the mission expanded to support all youth ages 12-17. L.I.V.E. is an acronym for Learn to Innovate while creating Valiant, Extraordinary people and Williams' inspiration behind her work, including the book, . Learn more at .
