Black Friday shopping habits are expected to significantly impact workplace productivity
SEATTLE, Nov. 27, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- ResumeTemplates.com, the leading platform for free professional resume templates and examples, has released new insights from a survey of 1,780 full-time U.S. workers, revealing the substantial impact of Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping on workplace productivity. Conducted in November 2024, the survey highlights how employees plan to balance their work obligations with shopping for seasonal deals, often during work hours.
Based on the results of this survey, 70% of full-time workers plan to shop Black Friday deals, 84% of whom will shop during work hours. More specifically, about 12% plan to spend less than an hour browsing deals, while the largest group, 43%, expects to spend between 1 to 3 hours. Another 21% anticipate spending 4 to 6 hours shopping, 4% plan to spend 7 to 9 hours, and 2% admit they'll devote 10 or more hours to hunting for bargains. Only 16% of workers say they won't shop during work hours at all.
"Black Friday and Cyber Monday offer some of the best deals," says ResumeTemplates' Chief Career Strategist Julia Toothacre. "Some employees will spend significant portions of their workday hunting for bargains, which can understandably create challenges for workplace productivity. Recognizing this, many companies give their employees time off around this big holiday shopping weekend."
Shopping is set to significantly affect workplace routines. Workers report they will block off calendars, delay deadlines, and even cancel meetings to prioritize shopping. Additionally, 18% of workers admit they plan to call in sick, and 31% of those who don't typically work remotely plan to work from home for easier access to sales.
Among those shopping, 12% expect to spend more than a week's pay. Nearly one-third (32%) of workers who plan to shop say they will do so more extensively this year than previous years. Among those increasing their spending, 31% attribute it to inflation, and 17% cite Trump's planned tariffs.
This survey, conducted in November 2024 via Pollfish, included 1,780 U.S. full-time workers. Participants were selected based on demographic criteria and screening questions. To view the complete report, please visit:
