EUGENE, Ore., Nov. 7, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- What do America's classic cars and dream homes have in common? Whether hugging the roadway or topping a home, iconic vehicles and homes are driven by system performance and beauty. Just as these elements can help a classic car "own the street," a high-performing roof can also drive a home's curb appeal.
Owens Corning and Mark Worman, creator and star of the TV program Graveyard Carz on the MotorTrend television network, announced a new collaboration that highlights how beauty, quality and craftsmanship come together to help homeowners "own the street." Collaborating with Owens Corning, Mark recently oversaw the roof install on his new home that he and his wife are building near Eugene, Oregon.
Details drive the difference
As his new home enters the final months of construction, Mark is applying the same level of detail to the home's design details that he brings to the cars he restores on Graveyard Carz. That commitment includes the Owens Corning Duration® shingles gracing his home's roof. Getting the details exactly right has been a hallmark of Mark's success whether restoring cars or building his dream home. His attention to detail extends to how various components perform as part of a system. "When you invest in a system, you know that the different parts are designed to work together for optimal performance," Mark said. "I've got one chance to get this right with my dream home, so I thought through everything I wanted."
Color helps steer the decision
Automotive manufacturers have long integrated beautiful color with design details and precision performance. America's classic muscle cars were available in a vast array of colors. "Car makers went the whole spectrum — from Plum Crazy to Panther Pink," said Mark. "That was because they wanted you to find your style."
When it came to selecting the shingle color for his home's roof, Mark relied on his wife Suzanne for color guidance. While he's comfortable being the color expert in car restoration, Mark leans on his wife's opinion when it comes to style decisions regarding the home. "I had to bring my wife in on the roof decision and I'm pretty sure that's how it works in many homes across the country," he said. "It's true in my house and from what I understand it's true pretty much everywhere."
Suzanne appreciated the wide range of colors Owens Corning offers that spoke to her sense of style and the aspiration for the new home. While Mark and Suzanne liked the broad color portfolio and applying different style tools to help make their decision, they ultimately selected Owens Corning's Duration® Series Shingles in Onyx Black. The rich black color underscores the "classic" aesthetic of the Worman's new home. They selected the Duration® shingles in part because of the richly saturated color that will bring depth and dimension to their new home's roof while contributing to the classic aesthetic.
Serious systems
A muscle car has to do more than look good. It also must perform. The Worman's gave careful thought to how their new home's roof would perform. "It's not just a shingle; it's a full roofing system," said Mark about the Owens Corning Total Protection Roofing System®. "I love when you can find a manufacturer that is responsible for how all of the components work together." A self-taught restorer of cars, Mark is just as interested in learning all he can about how the components in his new roof work together. "Every day I learn something — it's one of the things I love about working with cars," said Mark. Understanding how his new roof works as a system has given Mark confidence that his home will be well protected in a part of the country that is renowned for heavy precipitation throughout the year.
Construction on his home has been a long journey. Prior to the roof install in May, Mark stopped by the Owens Corning booth at this year's International Roofing Expo (IRE) in Las Vegas showcase a Mopar car and premiere a video, aptly titled "Own the Street." According to Mark, the 1970 Dodge Cornet R/T convertible is valued at nearly $1.5m and is the only one of its kind in the world today.
Speaking with car and roof enthusiasts in the Owens Corning booth, Mark said that just as the restored cars on Graveyard Carz effectively "own the street," a home's roof can make a statement when it integrates systems, color, and performance. More than simply a design element, the combination can help homeowners make a statement.
