ENYA Recipients: NY League of Conservation Voters, Building Energy Exchange, AKF Group JEDI Recipients: Daphany Rose Sanchez, Dwayne Norris
NEW YORK, Nov. 1, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The New York Energy Consumers Council (NYECC), one of the largest energy customer advocacy organizations representing energy users in New York State, today announced its 2024 Energy New York Awards (ENYA) recipients. The ENYA honors organizations and individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership and innovation in energy use and sustainability, and whose work has vast impact. Rory M. Christian, Chair and CEO of the New York Public Service Commission, served as Keynote Speaker at the event.
- Richard Yancey, Executive Director of Building Energy Exchange, received a vision award for leading BE-Ex since 2009, establishing the organization as a trusted resource for decision-makers across the building industry. Through education, exhibits, and actionable research, BE-Ex plays a central role in the climate action plans of both New York City and State.
- Charlie Marino, Co-Director, Energy & Performance Team, of AKF Group, received an innovation award for developing a decarbonization roadmap for 200 Park Ave, The MetLife Building, and leading a multi-year energy audit and retro-commissioning effort at Rockefeller Center.
- Julie Tighe, President of the NY League of Conservation Voters, received a leadership award for her impactful contributions to protecting and preserving New York's environment and achieving a just and effective energy transition strategy.
The ENYA Award for Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI), for those who demonstrate an inspiring level of leadership to drive greater justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in the world of New York City real estate/energy was awarded to:
- Daphany Rose Sanchez, Executive Director of Kinetic Communities Consulting, for bridging the gap between frontline communities and the clean energy industry. Her organization, predominantly women of color, has led successful outreach programs for affordable housing initiatives.
- Dwayne Norris, Co-Founder & COO of Soulful Synergy, LLC, has trained over 8,000 individuals, primarily New Yorkers, in clean energy and construction jobs, enabling thousands to secure gainful employment after completing their training. Soulful Synergy provides comprehensive programs tailored to underserved and overlooked communities.
Also recognized at the event were Alex Gulagaci, VP, Head of Engineering of RXR, Faisal Bakhteyar, Sr. Director, Origination of Brookfield Renewable US and Lauren Brois, Director, EnergySmart Homes of Sustainable Westchester.
Diana Sweeney, Executive Director, NYECC noted "Our ENYA honorees are leaders who have made a significant, positive impact on energy, sustainability and the environment in NYC. Our JEDI awardees have a passion for and commitment to creating a just and equitable NYC energy and real estate community and will be welcomed to share with the NYECC their leadership practices and exemplary contributions to society."
