Author gives readers the tools to decide if divorce or reconciliation is the best path for them
SARASOTA, Fla., Jan. 13, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Pastor, church planter, and professor of Biblical studies Jeff Beck invites couples in crisis on a journey of self-discovery and healing in his new book "Open Letters: Divorce or Reconciliation? A Fifty-Eight-Day Devotional Challenge"
This devotional book is designed to guide couples through the difficult terrain of strained marriages, especially those on the verge of divorce. The book is structured as a 58-day journey that combines biblical reflection, personal challenges, and spiritual guidance with the overarching goal of saving marriages, or at least fostering understanding between partners who may ultimately choose to part ways.
"One morning the spirit of God woke me," Beck said. "He said 'Jeff, I want you to pray, fast, and write open letters to the married couple whose relationship is being challenged every day until I release your spirit from writing these letters. These letters are open before me, each spouse, and yourself as you write them and send them.'"
Each day of the devotional contains a personal letter addressed to fictional characters, Crestfallen and Woolgathering, from a character named Polestar. These letters are prayers and reflections aimed at guiding the couple toward either reconciliation or separation. Also included are reflection questions for self-examination and discussion between partners, as well as scriptures and an exploration of the Bible passage that relates to the theme of the day.
Beck's approach emphasizes that the struggles couples face are not just personal but spiritual, often involving issues like deception, mistrust, unmet expectations, and selfishness. Using fictional scenarios and real-life biblical wisdom, he seeks to bring clarity to readers' own situations. The narrative also incorporates the broader effect of marital dissolution on family and friends, highlighting that divorce does not only impact the couple but ripples outward.
"The book is not meant to judge couples facing hardship," Beck explained, "rather it is a tool to encourage readers to take an honest look at where they are, at their spouse, and how to move forward. The daily devotionals invite readers to take a journey with openness and honesty so that they can fully understand the ramifications of their decisions. This devotional challenge does not tell couples what to do, it challenges them on their journey as they decide what path to take."
