Lincoln University of Missouri announces that enrollment is now open for its Master of Arts in Higher Education program with an HBCU concentration, a fully online program designed to equip higher education professionals to address the unique needs and opportunities of HBCUs.
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., Oct. 24, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Lincoln University of Missouri (LU) announces that enrollment is now open for its Master of Arts in Higher Education program with an HBCU concentration, for both the spring 2025 and fall 2025 cohorts. This fully online program is designed to equip education professionals with the leadership skills and knowledge necessary to address the unique needs and opportunities of HBCUs.
According to LU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Stevie L. Lawrence II, LU's MA in Higher Education degree is focused on helping HBCUs fulfill their shared mission and ensuring that more HBCU leaders, particularly those in student affairs, are prepared to support success for HBCU students, fostering academic excellence, cultural identity, leadership, and social responsibility.
"We need more leaders who are specifically trained to navigate the challenges and possibilities within our institutions," said Dr. Lawrence. "Our MA in Higher Education program is tailored to develop these future leaders. Our goal is to advance HBCU professionals, strengthen HBCUs as a whole, and better support our students."
The online master's program offers a comprehensive education on the structure, history, and impact of HBCUs, combined with leadership and strategy training that prepares graduates to take on senior roles in student affairs and educational administration. Students will develop expertise in areas such as strategic decision-making and data assessment. The curriculum also covers legal and ethical responsibilities within higher education, ensuring that graduates are well-versed in policy and compliance issues relevant to HBCUs.
A significant component of the program is its focus on creating inclusive and equitable educational environments. Graduate students in the program will learn effective communication and conflict resolution strategies aimed at promoting diversity and equity on campus. Additionally, the program addresses institutional advancement by equipping students with essential fundraising and grant-writing skills. In their final semester, students will complete a culminating research project that applies the knowledge they've gained to a real-world challenge in higher education.
Designed for flexibility, accessibility and affordability to support working professionals' completion of advanced degrees, LU's MA in Higher Education program is designed to be completed in 15 months or less, with 36 credit hours of coursework that can be managed alongside personal and professional commitments.
According to Lawrence, Lincoln University's Master of Arts in Higher Education program reflects the core values of HBCUs—accessibility, inclusivity, and support. With guidance from experienced faculty, graduate students will receive the mentorship and training necessary to succeed in their academic and professional pursuits.
